Indian Tepee. The tepee is a type of dwelling used by Native American people living in the Great Plains area of the United States. Though it was sometimes used outside this area, this was where it was most popular. The Indian tepee was popular because they worked well in all weather conditions, keeping dwellers warm or cool throughout the year. Most often, American Indians used buffalo hides for their teepee covers. A dozen or more buffalo hides had to be scraped, tanned, sewn and then braided together to create a half circle to cover the teepee.
